Free Country Free Worship

The recent spat of attacks on churches in New Delhi bring us into question again. Why is the Prime Minister Narendra Modi silent on this serious issue? Where is the freedom of religion? India is a secular country no matter how hard the Bharatiya Janata Party try to impose the Hindutva policy. As a christian its sickening to see the the heinous act of destroying the place of worship; burning altars burgling inside the church, heaven help this has to stop. The silence of the PM has only added more zealousness to continue these brutalities.

India is a land of so many different religions. In one way its something beautiful and something to really admire about. What will be the holy grail for the people to live as one and respect other religions without hurting something that others considers sacred? It is only in our own hands. The respect will come out only from within us. It is something which cannot be taught by someone else. The sense of reverence and respect will only come out from the depth of our hearts.

It will be pointless to point out just the Bharatiya Janata Party to be behind this. But a close study reveals that they have been a staunch supporters of the Hindu religion. This might have made some fanatics to step out of their zone and hurt other people. They know and believe that with the ruling government in power who promote Hinduism, it is less likely that they will be arrested. The people have voted for the Bharatiya Janata Party with absolute majority. The people have given them a clear mandate with the hope that they will bring development as well as peace throught the country. But slowly after the election things seem to be slowly crumbling down. The Congress were booted out because of the uncountable corruptions and now they are suffering because of it. The Bharatiya Janata Party have regained the power after so many years. But they won't live long if they fail to protect the minorities and turn blind eyes to them.

There is that sense of excitements and buzz all around. The people are happy that the Congress party has fallen. But the Bharatiya Janata party should be aware they they cannot make the same mistake. The "Achche Din" will only come if peace exists within the country itself. Without that this ruling party is no different from the other parties.

It is absolutely clear that the people voted for Bharatiya Janata Party for the all round development and progress of India. But drastically the developmental agenda seems to be disappearing into thin air and is only a mirage. Communal politics has to stop and stringent actions need to be taken. No response from the man elected to represent and to protect all of India’s citizens brings a sense of doubt and fear. Is Modi under pressure from the Hard-line Hindu nationalist groups, like the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)?

Problems of religion have occurred time and again in India. It is not only the case with Hinduism and Christianity. The Hindus versus the Muslims also represent one of the biggest tension in India. It is also worth pointing out that the partition of Pakistan was because of the rivalry between Hindus and Muslims. Religions which are based on the highest standards of love and brotherhood are in a complete muddle now. It has become a battlefield for power. One or the other religion is always on a mission to convert people to their own religion.

People choose which religion to follow and which they consider best. Everyone has a duty to respect respect other religions like the way they respect their own religion. To undermine other religion or sneer upon them will only add more fire to it.
